It’s amazing how time flies when you’re packing! There’s a reason that I haven’t been keeping up on my business coaching blog–we’re moving to Montana in about two weeks! Yikes!
And, of course, work has been coming in more consistently for both my husband and me. Many of my clients are working on copy for their websites and blogs, their value propositions and elevator pitches. And there’s a common issue they are facing.
How do you say what you need to say in a way you’re customers will hear?
It’s actually quite simple. Use their words.
Whether you’re trying to determine the right keywords for you web page or business blog post, it’s important to uncover the actual words you’re potential customers are using. How do you find out? You ask.
If you’re trying to uncover the value of what your product or service provides, ask your current clients/customers. Ask questions like:
- What value do you get from working with me?
- How has using the Casey Widget made your life better?
- What was it like before you started training with me?
Then use THEIR words. No fair translating them back to yours!
As for keywords…there’s a number of good tools out there to discover the phrases that people are actually using to search, including the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. You may be surprised that people think differently from you and use different words. Pay attention.
Whenever you communicate, use your customer’s words…not yours…and you’ll be on your way to business success!
